When you have to go on vacation, you need to do something with your pet. There are a lot of options out there that you can use. One of them is to take them to a boarding kennel. There, you can pay for someone to take care of your pet for as long as necessary. The nice thing about using a kennel is that you know the people there are familiar with taking care of animals, so your pet should be safe. If you are going to have to take your pet to a kennel, you want to make sure it's as low stress for them as possible. There are things that you can do that will make it easier on your pet. 

Favorite Item

If your pet has a favorite item—a toy, stuffed animal, blanket, or something similar—you want to make sure that you take that with you. Having something that they consider their favorite will make it less stressful for your pet. They will be able to play with their toy or sleep on their favorite blanket and have a feel of home right there. If their favorite item is a blanket that they sleep on regularly, that will help them to sleep while you are gone. If your pet is used to sleeping with you, they may have a hard time sleeping at night. 

Your Clothing

Another thing that you can do to help your pet adjust to staying in a kennel and be stressed as little as possible is take something that you have worn for them. A t-shirt that you have worn for a while but haven't washed will have your scent all over it. You could do something like wear the t-shirt to exercise in or wear it for a couple of days in a row. You will want to make sure that you get as much of your scent on it as possible. Sweating will make your scent even stronger, which is why exercising in it may be a good idea. Giving your pet an item of clothing that is saturated in your scent will give them some peace and comfort while you are gone.
